About the event

The Medical Laboratory Forum, the first of its kind is spearheaded by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMTTLB) which was established by an act of Parliament, MLTT Act No.10 of 1999, to amongst other functions regulate the operations of medical laboratories in the country.

The mandate of the Board includes regulating the business, practice, and professional conduct of registered medical laboratory technicians and technologists, licensing of technologists and technicians and approving courses and institutions that train laboratory professionals and register technicians and technologists. It does this by setting and maintaining standards of proficiency and conduct for the profession.

Country statistics show that 4 in 10 lab results are erroneous; this translates to about only 60% of patients getting accurate treatment for diseases ranging from TB, to cancer, malaria and typhoid among others. It is therefore paramount that a deeper understanding of the role that medical laboratories play in the overall health sector is realized.

It is on the above premise that the management of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board has set up the first Kenya Medical Laboratory stakeholders’ forum to be held on 14th September 2012 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi- Kenya.
